You might need to run a remote update manually
to populate the subscriber database quickly or to correct database
inconsistencies discovered during an audit.
Caution!
Remote updates have a significant impact on system performance.
Remote updates of more than a few hundred subscribers should
be scheduled during non-prime time hours. Even if traffic
is light during a remote update, users will likely experience
slow response time to commands and may hear the "Please
wait" prompt multiple times, or even "I'm sorry,
there is a problem with the system."
Large remote updates of more than 10,000 subscribers may
require several hours to complete. The length of time to complete
the update depends on the type of MM system (Standard or High
Availability), number of subscribers to be updated, and the
number of MASs in the system. Standard Availability systems
and systems with multiple MASs will require longer to update.
It is recommended that remote updates of 50,000 subscribers
or more be scheduled over a weekend. The following numbers
are provided to help estimate the total time required for
a remote update:
- The update rate on a Standard Availability system with
one MAS is approximately 3000 updates per hour.
- The update rate on a High Availability system with one
MAS is approximately 6000 updates per hour.

To run a remote update manually:
- Test the network connection to the remote system:
- Start at the Messaging Administration
main menu and select:

Test LDAP Connection
The Test LDAP Connection page displays.
- Select the machine you want to test and then click Test
LDAP Connection.
The system tests the connection and displays the results. The
system displays Passed in the Results field if the test was
successful or Failed if it was unsuccessful. If the test failed,
the system displays the reason for the failure under Error Reason.
- Click Return to Main.
- Determine the number of subscribers on the remote
system:
- Start at the Messaging Administration
main menu and select:
Global Administration
Messaging Administration
The system displays the SSH User
Authentication dialog box. Enter your login, for example,
sa or vm, in the User name field and your password in the
Password field. Click Login. The system then displays
the Messaging command prompt screen.

Request Remote Update
The Request Remote Update page displays.
- From the list, select the machine for which you want to
perform a subscriber update and then click Request
Remote Update.
The local system sends a request to the remote machine
for all of the subscriber data. You can click Refresh
Update Status to refresh the status of a update
that is in progress.
Caution! The update might take some time, possibly
hours, depending on the number of subscribers on the
remote system. Avoid running the remote update during
prime time hours. See the Caution statement at the top
of this topic for more information. |
- Click Return to Main.
- Check the Administrator's Log to
verify that no conflicts or problems occurred with the remote
update.
- Check that the remote subscribers are listed on the local system:
- Start at the Messaging Administration
