Configuring Dial-Up Networking
To configure your PC for dial-up networking with a PPP serial port console:
- Open My Computer on your PC.
- Double-click Dial-Up Networking. The Dial-Up Networking window opens.
Note: You must have dial-up networking installed on your PC.
- Double-click Make New Connection to configure your modem. The Make New Connection wizard opens.
- In the Type a name for the computer you are dialing field, enter a connection name for the computer you are dialing.
- In the Select a Modem field, select your modem.
- Select Configure. The Modem Properties window opens.
- Select the Connection tab. The Connection window opens.
- Select the following from the Connection Preferences window:
- In the Data bits field, select 8.
- In the Parity field, select None.
- In the Stop bits field, select 1.
- Select Advanced. The Advanced Connection Settings window opens.
- Select Software (XON/XOFF) from the Use flow control field.
- Select OK to close the window. The Modem Properties window reopens.
- Select the Options tab. The Options window opens.
- Select Bring up terminal window after dialing from the Connection Control field. Select OK. The Modem Properties window closes and the wizard continues.
- Select Next from the wizard window and enter the telephone number you are calling.
- Select Next. The wizard reports that you have successfully configured a modem.
- Select Finish. The wizard closes and the newly configured connection displays in your Dial-Up networking program folder.
- Select your new connection right click the mouse.
- Select Properties. The Properties window opens.
- Select the Server Types tab and de-select all advanced options except TCP/IP.
- Select TCP/IP Settings. The TCP/IP Settings window opens.
- Select Specify an IP Address and enter the IP address fro the serial port interface.
- Select Server assigned name server addresses.
- Clear Use IP header Compression and Use Default Gateway on remote network.
- Select OK to close the TCP/IP window.
- Select OK to close the New Connections Properties window.
