Configuring Dial-Up Networking

To configure your PC for dial-up networking with a PPP serial port console:

  1. Open My Computer on your PC.
  2. Double-click Dial-Up Networking. The Dial-Up Networking window opens.

Note: You must have dial-up networking installed on your PC.

  1. Double-click Make New Connection to configure your modem. The Make New Connection wizard opens.
  2. In the Type a name for the computer you are dialing field, enter a connection name for the computer you are dialing.
  3. In the Select a Modem field, select your modem.
  4. Select Configure. The Modem Properties window opens.
  5. Select the Connection tab. The Connection window opens.
  6. Select the following from the Connection Preferences window:
  7. Select Advanced. The Advanced Connection Settings window opens.
  8. Select Software (XON/XOFF) from the Use flow control field.
  9. Select OK to close the window. The Modem Properties window reopens.
  10. Select the Options tab. The Options window opens.
  11. Select Bring up terminal window after dialing from the Connection Control field. Select OK. The Modem Properties window closes and the wizard continues.
  12. Select Next from the wizard window and enter the telephone number you are calling.
  13. Select Next. The wizard reports that you have successfully configured a modem.
  14. Select Finish. The wizard closes and the newly configured connection displays in your Dial-Up networking program folder.
  15. Select your new connection right click the mouse.
  16. Select Properties. The Properties window opens.
  17. Select the Server Types tab and de-select all advanced options except TCP/IP.
  18. Select TCP/IP Settings. The TCP/IP Settings window opens.
  19. Select Specify an IP Address and enter the IP address fro the serial port interface.
  20. Select Server assigned name server addresses.
  21. Clear Use IP header Compression and Use Default Gateway on remote network.
  22. Select OK to close the TCP/IP window.
  23. Select OK to close the New Connections Properties window.
