To perform authentication or encryption, the switch must have an engine ID. By default the engine ID is based on the IP address of the ethernet console port. You can, however, change the engine ID of the switch. For information on how to change the engine ID of the switch, see "Changing the Engine ID of the Switch."
If the switch is using the default engine ID and you change the IP address of the ethernet console port, the engine ID is also changed. All user accounts are invalid if the engine ID changes, and you must reconfigure them.
