Preinstallation worksheet

Related Topics

Complete the following preinstallation worksheet before you begin to configure an Avaya media server.

Caution:
It is crucial to coordinate the IP addresses that will be used with your Avaya media server with those on the corporate LAN. If you specify an Ethernet address for an Avaya server component that conflicts with another Ethernet endpoint, the resulting problems with traffic on the local area network could be extremely difficult to diagnose and solve.

S8300 media server preinstallation worksheet

Worksheet items are arranged in the order in which they are needed during server configuration. For an illustration of these items, see the Configuration overview. Default values (if any) are shown in braces.

For the Set Server Identities screen

  1. Unique server name: __________________________________
This name should also be administered on any relevant corporate DNS servers.

For the Configure Ethernet Interfaces screen

  1. Ethernet 1 addresses for the corporate LAN interface.

  2. IP address for this server: {135.9.71.83} _____________________

IP address for corporate gateway: _____________________

    Subnet mask: {255.255.255.0} _____________________

Speed of link (10 or 100 megabit, full or half duplex): {autosense} _____________________

  3. Ethernet 0 addresses for the Services (laptop) interface are fixed.

  4. IP address for media server: 192.11.13.6

Subnet mask for the laptop link: 255.255.255.252

For the Configure Local Survivable Processor (LSP) screen

  1. Is this S8300 media server to operate as the primary controller for this telephony system? (y/n) _____  If yes, go to the next screen.

  2. Is this S8300 media server to be configured as a standby unit (LSP) for an S8700 media server? (y/n) _____  If yes, provide the following:

  3. IP address of a CLAN board in the S8700 configuration: _____________________

IP address of the S8700 server 1: _____________________

IP address of the S8700 server 2: _____________________

  4. Is this S8300 media server to be configured as a standby unit (LSP) for another S8300 media server? (y/n) _____  If yes, provide the following:

  5. IP address of the S8300 server operating as the primary controller: _____________________

For the Ethernet Adjuncts screen

  1. Specify the UPS for the server. If UPS is not used, set number to 0 and leave other fields blank.
Number of UPS units: {0} _____

  2. UPS 1 IP address: _____________________

  3. SNMP GET (read) community string: {public} _____________________

SNMP SET (write) community string: _____________________

note

The UPS must be on the same subnet as the media server, and must report alarms through SNMP to the server in order for the server to respond correctly to a loss of power.

Optional: If external domain name service (DNS) servers are to be used, complete as many of the following fields as needed to set up DNS service and limit unresolved name searching. Fill out only as many server and search domain fields as are needed:

For the Set Static Network Routes screen

Optional: Enter any static IP addresses required to ensure delivery of information to certain endpoints the network (for example, to access Ethernet switches or other G700 Media Gateways).

For the Network Time Server screen

Choose whether or not the media server will synchronize its time of day using NTP (questions 1 through 3), and how if yes.

  1. Disable Network Time Protocol (NTP) synchronization and use the S8300's own clock? (y/n) _____

  2. Enable NTP but have this S8300 use its own clock? (y/n) _____

  3. Enable NTP and use a different server as an NTS time source? (y/n) _____

  4. Enter DNS name or IP address of the other NTS computers (up to 3, in preferred order). If a trusted key is needed for the server, enter that Trusted Key value as well (otherwise, leave blank):

  5. Primary NTS name or IP address: _____________________

    Trusted key? _____________________

Secondary NTS name or IP address: _____________________

    Trusted key? _____________________

Tertiary NTS name or IP address: _____________________

    Trusted key? _____________________

Should the server support NTSs that multicast timing messages? (y/n): _____

Enter any other valid key numbers supplied by the LAN administrator (otherwise leave blank)

Additional Trusted Keys needed by NTS servers (up to 3): _____________________

    Request Key: _____________________

    Control Key: _____________________

Provide the location or content of the keys file (if used): _____________________

For the Set Modem Interface screen

  1. Specify the IP address for the server's modem (if used). This information must be provided by Avaya Services if a maintenance contract is in force.

  2. IP address of the PPP dial-up link: _____________________

  3. Use the default return routes as provided (unless Services specifically instructs you to change them).

For the Configure Trap Destinations screen

  1. Specify Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) alarming information for each trap destination (needed only if a corporate network management system is in use).

  2. IP address of SNMP trap destination: _____________________
