Set Server Time/Timezone screen

Use this screen to set or adjust the time on a new or in-service Avaya
media server. This topic covers:

Server time features
Server time features include:
- The Avaya media server can use its own clock as a
time source, or be synchronized with an external time source on the corporate
network.
- If this server is using its own clock as a time source,
use this screen as needed to adjust the time.
- If the Avaya media server is synchronizing its time
with a Network Time Server (NTS) external time source, you set the time
using this screen only during initial configuration in order to bring
the media server's time close enough to the NTS's
time so that synchronization can occur (within about 5 minutes if possible).
Caution:
If synchronization with an external time source is enabled, do not use
this screen to adjust the time after the server is in operation. Time
changes greater than 15 minutes will disrupt the synchronization with
the NTS and NTP will shut down.
The MultiVantage
software relies on the time of day setting for many system functions,
including:
- time stamp data elements (including error logs and
record files)
- set time-out intervals (including automatic wake-up
messages and do-not-disturb intervals)
- perform scheduled tasks (such as system maintenance
and backups)
- synchronize time of day with other processors on
the network
Out-of-sync timing messages are ignored,
so an outsider cannot easily reset the media server's clock by sending
it a wildly inaccurate time.
Set server time procedure
To set or adjust the Avaya media server's clock:
- In
the main menu under Server, click the Set Server Time/Timezone link. The
Set Server Time / Timezone screen appears.
Caution:
The current time is displayed near the top of the screen. If
an Avaya media server is synchronizing its time with a Network Time Server
(NTS) external time source, you only set the time during initial configuration
in order to bring the media server's time close enough to the NTS's
time so that synchronization can occur (within about 5 minutes). Do not
use this screen to adjust the time after the server is in operation; time
changes greater than 15 minutes will disrupt the synchronization with
the NTS. See Configure Network Time Server for details.
To adjust the system time:
- Select time.
Using the drop-down choices, select the hours and minutes.
- Select date.
Using the drop-down choices, select the month, day, and year.
- Double-check your
day entry. If incorrect, the server will adjust it. For example,
if you select February 31, the server will
change it to March 3 on the results screen.
- Specify a year.
If you do not select a year, it supplies a default year that may or may
not be current.
- Select time zone.
Using the scroll box, choose the correct time zone for this server's location.
If you reset the time zone, the call-processing software needs to be
restarted. See Shutdown This Server.
- When
all the settings look correct, click Submit.
The Set Server Time/Timezone results screen appears.
- Confirm that the time is adjusted as you expected.
If so, continue your administration activities as needed.
- If an error message appears, note the probable problem,
then return to this screen to correct the problem.
