FreeType is a freely available portable font engine.
Multiple flaws were discovered in FreeType's Printer Font Binary (PFB) font-file format parser. If a user loaded a carefully crafted font-file with a program linked against FreeType, it could cause the application to crash, or possibly execute arbitrary code. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the names CVE-2008-1806, CVE-2008-1807 and CVE-2008-1808 to these issues.
More information about these vulnerabilities can be found in the security advisory issued by RedHat Linux:
Product: | Affected Version(s): | Risk Level: | Actions: |
---|---|---|---|
Avaya Communication Manager | CM 3.0 | Low | FreeType is not installed in CM 3.1 and later. Upgrade to CM 3.1 or later to resolve this issue. |
Avaya Intuity AUDIX LX | All IALX | Low | This will not be addressed as no further releases are planned. |
Avaya EMMC | EMMC 1.0.0.0.17 | Low | Upgrade to EMMC 1.0.0.0.21 |
Avaya Voice Portal | VP 3.x and 4.x | Low | FreeType is installed as part of Linux that Avaya ships with Voice
Portal, but is not used or supported by Voice Portal. Avaya will not test the recommended patch for VP use since FreeType is not supported. Customers may upgrade to VP 5.0. |
Avaya Proactive Contact | PC 4.0, 4.1 | Low | Upgrade to PC 4.1.1 or later. |
Recommended Actions:
For all vulnerable system products,
Avaya recommends that customers restrict local
and network access to the server. This restriction should be
enforced through the use of physical security, firewalls, ACLs,
VPNs, and other generally-accepted networking practices until such
time as the upgrade can be installed.
Avaya software-only products operate on general-purpose operating systems. Occasionally vulnerabilities may be discovered in the underlying operating system or applications that come with the operating system. These vulnerabilities often do not impact the software-only product directly but may threaten the integrity of the underlying platform.
In the case of this advisory Avaya software-only products are not affected by the vulnerability directly but the underlying Linux platform may be. Customers should determine on which Linux operating system the product was installed and then follow that vendor's guidance.
