9608 Muffled Reception
 
Has anyone come across an issue of muffled received calls on 9608 SIP phones using TLS? External callers can hear the person ok but the 9608 user complains that the calls is very muffled (like speaking through a pillow)
Our site is running AA release 7 on VMware with media servers and using SIP trunks, there are no gateways.

I've had two requests about this symptom. User one needed to simply adjust their volume while taking a call. The volume control has separate behaviors for ringing and talking for instance. User two was the victim of an office prank were someone had taped over the earpiece,

Is the 9608 user on the handset, headset, or speaker? Does it make a difference, if they use those different trandsucers? If they are using a headset, is it the correct headset/cable for a 9608?

No I have done a lot of testing and tried all the different settings on the phone, it sounds like a Codec issue or something similar (we are using G729 throughout). It is as if all the higher tomes of peoples voices are removed or talking into the phone with the mouthpiece at the top of your head. Also it is the same at both ends of the conversation.

Is it the same for internal calls? Or only external calls? TLS will not make a difference in audio quality. Are you using the same codec internally as externally for the trunks? Do you have the same experience when you are using a soft client on the inside? If it is a codec transcoding issue, I'd expect you have the same issue with a softphone. Are your SBC and phones in the same IP Network region in CM? Are you using current firmware on the 9608s?
