How to configure emergency button for AVAYA 9608 telephone, that when the button is dialed, a call is made but does not ring or make a sound

The button is called "criss-alert." The whole reason for the button is to alert the station's user.

Sorry Bill but I think the request is slightly different. They want the user to be able to make/initiate a emergency call without any audio heard at their own end (but I would assume open mic), eg. a silent panic button. For example for a receptionist to alter other parties without the person threatening them being aware (assuming they didn't spot the single button press).

I know of nothing that Avaya offers in the case of someone who is physically present with the user. In any case, it would not be smart to have a visable button to push. This is the purpose of hidden alert buttons in banks. I would install that one could reach under the desk. perhaps with a a knee or foot that would notify security (where the camera monitor are).

We have opted for locked doors that are covered by cameras. In that way entry is only given after that potential entrant explains the purpose for the visit. I our corporate office, there is a uniformed security officer at the entry point. Does this help?

It can be just as you say but probably not from your phone. To be clear this will be one of the dreaded "It depends" answers:

• If a station dials 911, the system places the call to whatever agency is set to handle those calls. While this is happening, the console and one or more designated stations lights up and starts to produce a unique tone.
• If a user activates a malicious call trace (MCT) either by pressing a button on the phone or entering a feature access code (FAC). The call is traced and a recording starts.
• If there is a threatening or intimidating person present, the station or console user can activate a MCT or call 911. But this may not be a good option for a variety of reasons.

Moreover the employee may not want to do anything overt that could result in physical harm. In a case like this, a hidden and silent "panic button" may be a better solution. Panic buttons come is a variety of functions and features.

Your security supervisor should be aware of these. I hope this helps.
