Default Support for migration environments

The offer definition for Aura 8 references a migration environment that allows a client to have both SM 8 and SM 6/7 both deployed as part of a migration from Aura 6 to Aura 8. It's clearly referenced as an environment with transitory support for the migration. What I'm wondering is how long that migration period can be. I have a large client with hundreds of sites that, ideally, might take 18 months to complete the migration. Best case would be about 1 year. Would either or both of these time frames be supported?
