Hi,

Root account might be disabled once authentication file is updated. you don't need root access to upgrade phone firmware.

all you need to do is- login to utility server. upload the file under "Miscellaneous" menu and then unpack and active this firmware in manage phone firmware under IP Phone Firmware Manager menu.

if the phone does not take new firmware, please check phone display during boot up and check the utility server http logs.

We don't have access to root with or without an authentication file. Very frustrating as we can only add files via the web interface, but not remove them. Need root access to remove old files in the shell.

In the case of VMware Utility Server, root is needed to reboot the virtual machine after a patch installation. I've had to engage the customer to reboot the VM via vSphere in the past because Avaya does not give me the tools I need to maintain this product.

Hello,

i am not sure about your utility server version, but time out issue is fixed in 6.3 service pack 9 and above.

Also, you can copy the file via winscp or any scp client to utility server /tmp directory or copy to your home directory and copy to /tmp directory.

Which is useless because firmware and phone files need to be in a certain directory which only root has access to.
