Default MM 4 Migrating from Exchange 2003 store to 2007

Hello,

We are looking at migrating from an exchange 2003 store to an exchange 2007 store on MM4. I am not finding much documentation on being able to do that and/or what needs to be done to accomplish.

Default Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 migration

Before moving MASs to Exchange 2007 Peer

• Will be using Exchange 2003 as Peer Message Store.

• Exchange 2007 servers will be treated as Non Peers.

• Exchange mailboxes located on Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2003 Servers can be MM enabled.

After moving MASs to Exchange 2007 Peer

• Will be using Exchange 2007 as Peer Message Store.

• Exchange 2003 servers will be treated as Non Peers.

• Exchange mailboxes located on Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2003 Servers can be MM enabled.



The steps to migrate to Exchange 2007 will be as follows. Some of these steps will overlap with the General Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 migration.

Exchange Upgrade Steps

In order to migrate to Exchange 2007 follow these steps:

a. Introduce new Exchange 2007 Server in to the Exchange Organization and configure the Server.

b. Test Exchange 2007 is operational.



Changing MM Account Permissions

Changes to MM Service Group Permissions

Make the following changes to the MM Service Group to allow the required access to the Exchange 2007 Servers for the MM Account:

a. Launch Active Directory Users and Computers

b. Select the MM Service Group, right click and select Properties

c. Select Member of Tab

d. Select Add to add the MM Service Permissions Group to be a member of Exchange Recipient Administrators group

e. Select OK.

f. Give the MM Customer Account the ‘Send As’ permission, as per the Install Document.

g. Restart all MASs and Supplementary Servers to ensure the permissions change is populated to all MASs.

Once you have changed the permissions of the MM Accounts and MM Service Group you can start migrating your MM system to Exchange 2007 Servers by completing the following steps in the order shown –

• Move the MM Enabled mailboxes to the Exchange 2007 Server.

• Move the MASs to use Exchange 2007 Servers as the Peer Message Store.
