Default Baystack 425-48T VLAN question

Hello,

I have a new client who has around 12 Baystack 425-48T switches.

We would like to attach several Proxim Access Points to these switches, using the default (untagged) VLAN 1 for private traffic, and tagged VLAN 50 for guest (Internet only) traffic.

These units appear to support VLANs, but only in a "port based" mode. In other words, the port can be assigned to a specific VLAN, but can not be configured to accept multiple VLANs (one untagged VLAN, multiple tagged VLANs).

Is this contention correct? No support for what is often referred to as "general" mode for switch ports that allows for both tagged and untagged traffic?

These switches should be capable of forwarding traffic for multiple vlans on 1 port.

You need to configure the port as follows:
- enable "perform tagging"
- enable "untag default vlan"
- add the needed vlans to the port
- set the defaultvlanid or "pvid" to the vlan that does not need to be tagged.

depending on the software you might need a slightly different approach:
- put port in "untagpvidonly"
- disable "filter untagged frames"
- add the needed vlans to the port
- set the default vlan id
