Question Not All Relevant Documents Listed in a Downloads & Documents Search

I have found that using the "Downloads & Documents" option to search for documentation does not always return all relevant documents I would expect.
For example, I used "Downloads & Documents" to search for Product "Avaya Aura® Communication Manager", then selected version 6.3.x and limited the results returned to "Security Advisories" but no results were returned.

However, when I used the Avaya support search engine to find "Avaya Aura Communication Manager 6.3" then limited those results to "Security Advisories" this produced several results, one of which was relevant to the Communication Manager 6.3 product but many which were not.

I have found similar results for other products and versions.

How can I use the support site to find all the relevant documentation published by Avaya for a particular product and version without returning results from other products?

After performing some investigation regarding security advisories, I found that there are no advisories that have been specifically posted for version 6.3. I have sent a message to our security advisory team for further investigation there.

Based on your search results and my investigation the support site's search engine is returning the correct results. Our search engine not only searches document titles, it also searches document content. While the results will provide you with the content that is most relevant and viewed, the content displayed can and often does also contain documentation that references the product searched.

We do have knowledge articles which provide tips for searching on our web site, click here to find out more.

Thank you for your response.

Can you please clarify why this document was not returned in my search within "Downloads & Documents":
https://downloads.avaya.com/css/P8/documents/100173165

Why is this document not considered to be a CM 6.3 Security Advisory?

The two facilities work differently. Take an example doc "Product A Release 1 User Guide"

The "Documents & Downloads" route only shows documents that have been tagged with settings that match the criteria you set. ie. its not a search. Tags include obvious thing like the product, release and doc type. So probably for the doc you wanted, one or other of those tags hadn't been set or was set to some other value.

The search is exactly that and will find docs regardless of how they are tagged.

The theory is that, with the former, if correctly tagged you see only exactly the docs you want to see, whereas with the later you may see lots of matches for docs that you don't need (depending on the search terms you use and the matches within the document).

Yes that doesn't help you, but to give an example, the recent "IP Office Release 9.0" launch involved the tagging of over 1300 documents. We hope we tagged all of them correctly.

Hi Mark

Thanks for the reply. If I understand you correctly then I assume that tagging on recent Security Advisories has most likely been imcomplete (I have encountered similar issues with other products, starting around July this year) and there is not an easy way to find these documents using the web tools without manually filtering out the unwanted results.

I had relied on the D&D search to keep up to date on Security Advisories but will revise this process.

The document search is lousy. Why do I need to scroll to the bottom for additional search results to appear? I want to submit criteria and then perform a text search for a keyword to find, for example, the application note relevant to my project.

Please fix this Avaya.
