Default 8600 CP-Limit - 4500 Port Rate Limit

Hello
I have 6 stacks of Avaya 4548 this stacks are connected to a stack distribution in 4548 which it connected whith SMLT on 2 network core Nortell networks 8600

Since today on 8600 the SMLT ports connected to this distribution stack shutdown regularly with this kind of log:

2014-02-04T08: 43:32.198098 +01:00 CPU5 [2014-02-04 8:59:04] WARNING CPU Shutdown Port 4/5 due to excessive control frames multicast 0, broadcast 15011 packet per second

My question is
What is the default value for the CP-LIMIT on 8600 ( 10000 pps ?)

My other question is:
How does the option of rate limit on ports Nortell 4548 works ?
when the level is reached? the port become shutdown ? or til drop packets?

Default CP limit

Refer to the document "Administration - Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch 8800/8600"

It has information on CP limit along with recommended value starting from page 64.

Default values -
broadcast-limit : Configures the broadcast control frame rate expressed as pps in a range from 1000– 100000. The default value is 10000

multicast-limit : Configures the multicast control frame rate expressed as pps in a range from 1000–100000. The default is 15000.

If you are using the 8692 SF/CPU with a SuperMezz, change the default to 3000
pps

Just happened to read your post now, so I presume you have already resolved the loop issues you most likely had. However, if you're still not certain that it's resolved, or if you are worried that you might get the issues back, you should read up on SLPP and SLPP-guard.

The ERS4500-platform has had slpp-guard since 5.6.0. If you haven't upgraded, do it!
Quick steps:
Globally enable SLPP on 8600s
Set SLPP on all relevant vlans in the 8600 core

On the 4500-series
Globally enable slpp
Enable slpp on all vlans
Set slpp-guard on all upstream ports - NOT on the ports pointing towards the core
And you isolate just the ports that have something looping them

You will find the details in the The Small Campus Technical Solution Guide. Although this has the 5000-series as the core, the edge configuration is still the same. The other Campus-documents I just found were too old to have slpp-guard as a configuration option.
