Can anyone shed light on what configuration is used at the BEB routers when extending C-VLANs to multi-homed (LACP) swithes? The only hint I've found so far is this statement:
"On the ERS 8600 & ERS 8800 the CVLAN cannot be configured on any NNI interface (including the IST) " in the presentation at http://198.152.212.23/css/P8/documents/100168436, which includes a diagram suggesting that the C-VLAN needs to somehow be joined between the BEB nodes, but apparently not on the IST, so in that case how? There is no configuration example given. Thanks, Steve |

The key seems to be the setup of the SMLT Virtual BMAC and the SMLT Peer System-ID. With those, you create an SMLT pair from two BEB. From there, you simply create an SMLT as normal on the pair with the exception of *not* putting the C-VLAN on the IST.
You simply create the C-VLAN on the switches with the proper i-sid, then add the C-VLAN to the MLT/SMLT created that goes to your downstream SMLT client. Fairly simple, but not doing the C-VLAN across the IST always leaves me with a feeling that I've left something out, but it works. The i-sid and the SMLT vBMAC and the SMLT Peer Sys-ID stand in for the placement of the C-VLAN across the IST as we are used to doing it. In this instance you are not putting the C-VLAN on any NNI, only on the UNI. Keep in mind that you cannot do this if you are transporting your C-VLAN down the the edge using SPB. In that case, why bother with LACP? |
