3920 Wireless Phone users hear beeping every 2-3 seconds on the call. This happens for the duration of the call. The site has a single 3920 phone, with the base station and a single repeater to enhance coverage. This beep can be heard by the user only. The other party on the call may detect a short cut off/cut out/silence during the "beep" to the 3920 set.

Problem Clarification

When the user is within a certain area of the building, the wireless phone will produce a beep every 2-3 seconds for the duration of the call. When they move closer to the base station (away from the repeater coverage area) the phone does not produce the beeps.

Cause

The repeater is programmed to produce a monitor beep. This is a single beep (almost a chirp) every 3 seconds for the duration of the call. This beep is on by default and is designed to let the user know they are receiving signalling from the repeater and not directly from the base station. When the user walks away from the repeater (closer to base) the base will pick up the call directly and the beeping will stop.

Solution

Turn off the monitor beep / verification tone on the repeater.

Turning off the Verification Tone

  1. Unplug the AC adapter from the wall outlet.
  2. Reconnect the power for 1 to 5 seconds, and disconnect it again.
  3. Reconnect the power and wait for the Light Emitting Diode (LED) on the repeater to start a slow flash.
  4. Disconnect the power, and immediately reconnect it. The verification tone then gets deactivated.

To turn the verification tone on again, repeat the procedure.
