ASP 110 (DELL PowerEdge R640 XL)
Avaya Aura Media Server (AAMS) 8.0

Problem Clarification

After server maintenance on an ASP 110 server running AAMS 8.0, the operating system failed to boot and encountered a boot loop displaying error messages such as "Boot Failed: Integrated RAID Controller 1: EFI RAID Disk PlaceHolder 1" and "No boot device available or Operating System detected." Consequently, the AAMS service could not start.

Cause

A depleted CMOS battery caused the saved BIOS configurations to be lost and reset to factory defaults when power was removed during hardware maintenance. Upon resetting, the Boot Mode reverted to the default UEFI setting. However, AAMS versions prior to 10.1.0 SP2 only support Legacy BIOS boot mode on the ASP 110 platform. Because the server attempted to boot in UEFI mode instead of BIOS mode, it was unable to locate or load the installed operating system.

Solution

  1. Replaced the faulty CMOS battery to prevent BIOS settings from resetting again during future restarts (refer to Avaya KB SOLN374368).
  2. Access System Setup (BIOS) during startup (press F2) or via iDRAC.
  3. Under System BIOS -> Boot Settings, change the Boot Mode from UEFI to BIOS.
  4. Save the changes and reboot the server.
  5. The system successfully booted into the operating system and AAMS services were restored.
