If an attempted login to the MAPD fails to reach a Console Login prompt, the MAPD must be rebooted in one of two ways:
Perform the Manual Reboot procedure outlined in procedure below (this will require a person physically on-site), or
Call Avaya Backbone for Technical Support at 1-800-344-9670 and an engineer will remotely login through a proprietary maintenance option and force a reboot via root level commands.
In an ASAI connectivity environment, after the MAPD is booted back up, the LCD Display on the front of the MAPD will display"ASAI-X", where "X" represents the number of ASAI links administered (e.g. ASAI-2). If the LCD shows "AINIT", the MAPD is booted but waiting for a client connection. In that case, restart the appropriate ASAI application.
Manually Rebooting the MAPD
Follow these steps to reboot the MAPD from the front panel:Press and release Boot/Shut (button is recessed).
When the Liquid Crystal Display on the faceplate displays MSHUT solidly without flashing, press and release the boot/shut button again. This will initiate the boot sequence. If the word MSHUT continues to flash and will not steadily appear, call Avaya Backbone Technical Support for assistance.
Warning: Physically reseating the MAPD board is not a viable option, doing so runs the risk of corrupting the software when the board is not properly shut down. If you encounter difficulty rebooting your MAPD, call Avaya Backbone Technical Support for assistance.
As the MAPD system comes up, the Liquid Crystal Display on the Faceplate identifies the MAPD states and alarms. When the MAPD system is coming up, the LCD should display the following states (in order):
FWBOOT (firmware board tests)
PCBIOS (Pentium processor card diagnostics)
OSINIT (operating system initialization)
PGMFW (update MAPD FLASH PROMS, if necessary)
AINIT (MAPD System Initialization)
If the system does not come up to the AINIT state within 10 minutes (4 to 7 minutes is average), contact Avaya Backbone Technical Support for assistance.
ASAI x (MAPD running with x established ASAI links)
Procedure to Set the MAPD Clock
NOTE: It is not a requirement to set the actual MAPD time correctly. Even if the time is set correctly, the MAPD is still subject to the possibility of a lock up after a time change event occurs.
Log in to your MAPD and follow these steps to set the MAPD clock:
- From the Main Menu, select 4. Maintenance. The system displays the Maintenance Menu.
From the Maintenance Menu, select 2. Set System Time and Date. The system displays the Maintenance, Set System Time and Date screen.
- In the Time field, enter the time of day in hours and minutes (hh:mm), based on a 24-hour clock, for example, 14:00 (for 2:00 p.m.).
- In the Month field, enter a two-digit month identifier, for example 04 (for April)
- In the Day field, enter a two-digit identifier for the day of the week, for example 05 (for Friday).
- In the Year field, enter the four-digit calendar year, for example, 2002.
- In the ST Name field, enter the name or abbreviation of the standard time zone for your location, for example, Pacific.
- In the Offset Time field, enter the four digit value for the number of hours that vary from Universal Time (also known as Greenwich Mean Time). For example, if you select Pacific for your time zone, the offset time is 08:00.
-
In the Direction E/W field, enter either E or W. This field refers to the direction your location is from the Universal Time zone (e.g. If you entered Pacific in Step 6, you would enter W for offset).
(This step is optional) In the DST Name field, enter the name of the time zone you specified in Step 7 (for example, Pacific).
-
Keep in mind that when you specify a time zone in the DST Name field, you are setting an alternate time zone that follows U.S. Daylight Savings rules.
- Press ENTER when you have completed the fields for the"Maintenance, Set System Time and Date" screen. The system will return you to the Maintenance Screen.
- Press CTRL-F 1 (EXIT) to return to the Main Menu.
