Problem Clarification

This article provides information on how to set the date and time in Definity One.

Solution

Note: You cannot set Daylight Savings Time from the cmd prompt.

DEFINITY ONE now uses Windows NT to set the system date and time. The date and time will be set by the on site technician as follows if there is a keyboard, mouse and monitor connected to the system.

  1. Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel

  2. Double click on Date/Time in the Control Panel window

  3. Set the correct date

  4. Highlight the hour and use the arrows to the right to set it

  5. Highlight the minute and use the arrows to set it

  6. Highlight AM/PM and use arrows to set it

  7. Right click on Time Zone tab at the top of the window

  8. Select the correct Time Zone from the drop down menu above map

  9. If the time zone uses daylight savings time, check box below map

  10. Click OK when you are sure data entered is correct

  11. Exit Control Panel

If there is no keyboard, mouse and monitor. the technician will use the following procedure to start pcANYWHERE on their laptop to set date and time on the system.

  1. Insert PCMCIA nic card into TN795

  2. Connect laptop to nic

  3. Start laptop Internet browser

  4. On browser turn off proxies. Write down your settings for restoration later. (For Netscape go to Edit, Preferences, Advanced, Proxies set to Direct connect to Internet. For Internet Explorer 4.x go to View, Internet Options, Connection, check Connect to Internet using

LAN, uncheck Use proxy server. For Internet Explorer 5.x go to Tools Internet Options, Connections. At the bottom of the window click LAN Settings. Uncheck Use a proxy server box and check Automatically detects settings. Click OK until back at web page.)

The date and time can also be set via command line similar to MS-DOS. This is done by doing a telnet to the lac and choosing the cmd. From a local keyboard, mouse and monitor do the following. At this time, the time zone cannot be set from the command line.

  1. Click on Start, Run on the desktop
  2. In the window type telnet 192.xx.13.6 and click OK
  3. Login
  4. At the lac prompt, type cmd and hit the enter key
  5. At the cmd prompt type date and enter date, i.e. 12/06/1999 then hit enter. The system will display the date
  6. At the cmd prompt, type in time, using 24hr clock, i.e. 13:45 then hit enter. The system will display the time

The technician can also do this from the laptop using the nic card on the front of the TN795 board and using the same procedure. Remotely from the TSC, the date and time can be set after accessing the lac prompt and following the above procedure starting at step 4. The desktop procedure can also be done remotely by the TSC.

At the LAC prompt type in bash. When the definity-one prompt shows up type pcanywhere. When system says the process has started, you can launch pcANYWHERE on your PC. pcANYWHERE is located under Start, Programs, wcsc, cms support.

  1. Left click pcANYWHERE
  2. On pcANYWHERE screen right click on NETWORK icon
  3. Select Properties
  4. Check TCP/IP in Connection Info Tab
  5. Click on the Settings Tab
  6. Type in the ip address of users system. This is found on the Solution Element information page
  7. Click OK
  8. Double click the NETWORK icon
  9. The first time you use pcANYWHERE, you will get a challenge screen. In the login box, type in skpca. The password is pcany1?. You will not be challenged again unless your PC is rebooted
  10. The system will now connect you, via the dial up connection you have up to the system desktop

From this point, you can access the system as if sitting at the console. To login use CAD button located on the top tool bar of pcANYWHERE. After you are finished using the desktop, use the END SESSION icon on the top toolbar. At the dial up screen, you should still be at the bash prompt. Close down pcANYWHERE by typing pcanywhere -c before logging out.
