For AVAYA CONVERSANT (Version 6.1 and Above) & Enhanced Service Center (ESC)

Problem Clarification

The Daylight Savings Time schedule has been changed by the provisions of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. As a result of this change, these CONVERSANT systems must have their internal Daylight Savings Time schedules turned off & the time needs to be changed manually in the Spring & Fall each year if the system is in an area that observes Daylight Savings Time.

Please Note: This task should be done in 'single-user' mode.

Warning: Setting the date/time while the CONVERSANT system is in multi-user mode can be dangerous.

Solution

Warning: If the CONVERSANT cannot be shut down, this process can be done in normal working mode but is not suggested. Skip processes (A) and (D) below to set time only.

*** NOTE: ON AN Enhanced Service Center (ESC) THIS MUST NOT BE DONE DURING THE FIRST 10 MINUTES OF ANY HOUR TO MAKE SURE THAT THE SYSTEM REPORTS WILL CONFIGURE PROPERLY.

(A) CHANGING THE SYSTEM TO SINGLE-USER MODE

1. Log in to the CONVERSANT as 'root' at the system console

2. Once completely logged in, type 'stop_vs'. This will stop the voice system and put the system into run level 2 (on a CONVERSANT 7 it will be run level 3)

3. Confirm by typing 'who -r' -- this will display the current run level

4. Then type 'shutdown -i1 -g0 -y' & press enter. Messages on the screen will indicate the new run level (1) and end with 'Change to state 1 has been completed.' Then a new 'Console Login:' will appear

5. Go to step (B)

(B) CHANGING THE SYSTEM DATE & TIME

1. Log in to the CONVERSANT as 'root'

2. Once logged in, type 'sysadm'

3. On the '1 UNIX System V Administration' menu, highlight 'system_setup' & press enter

4. On the '2 System Name, Date Time and Initial Password Setup' menu, highlight 'datetime' & press enter

5. On the '3 Display and Set System Date and Time' menu, highlight 'set' & press enter

6. On the '4 Set System Date and Time Information' screen, change the time, verify all the other information & make sure that the 'Is daylight savings time in effect?:' field is set to 'no'

7. Press the F3 (SAVE) key to save the changes. You will see 'Working' in the upper right corner of the screen.

8. Then you will see '5 Setting System Date and Time Information' with a message indicating the successful completion of the task by the UNIX system.

The datetime task has successfully changed the system date and time information. You may need to log out and log in again to see any time zone changes. The change will be reflected in all new processes invoked after this time.

The Date and Time have been set to November 4, 2007 02:00 AM Mountain.

The cron daemon has been restarted to pick up the new time and/or timezone.

9. Just above the function key indicators 'Press CONT to repeat this task or CANCEL to return to the menu.' can bee seen. Press F6 (CANCEL)

10. Press F7 (CMD-MENU), highlight 'exit' & press enter

11. At the Unix prompt type 'vs/bin/setclk' & press enter

(C) TO CHECK TIME IN THE SYSTEM

1. To check the current date & time, type 'date' at the Unix prompt

2. To see a display of the old & new settings at the time of the change, type 'who -t' at the Unix prompt

(D) RESTART THE CONVERSANT

1. At the Unix prompt type 'shutdown -i6 -g0 -y'. This will bring the CONVERSANT down to run level 0 & then back up to run level 4
