Problem Clarification

The new daylight savings time (US2007DST) enacted by the U.S. Energy Policy Act of 2005 has caused a lot of confusion regarding software applications. The Witness Workforce Management Microsoft based Windows products pull their dates and times from the operating system as well as from inside the Witness WFM specific code. Based on which version of the WFM product is installed, requires one or more Hotfixes to be applied, to fully support the 2007 daylight savings time changes.

From a Microsoft Windows Operating System environment perspective (Servers and Clients), there are two concerns – OS patch and Sun Java patch. Following is a brief discussion of these two concerns followed by detailed notes as to what needs to be done for the WFM servers and clients based on which version of WFM you have installed:

1) The Microsoft Help and Support website specifically discusses their various recommendations for the Microsoft based operating systems and applications. A good starting point, to begin your planning as well as the various recommendations made by Microsoft can be found in the Microsoft KB document:

“Preparing for Daylight Saving Time Changes in 2007”

The Microsoft web browser url for this KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/gp/dst_topissues

The url to install the Daylight Savings Time patches for the Microsoft Windows 2003 and Windows XP Operating Systems can be found at:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929120

2) Additionally many of the newer Witness applications get their date and time from the Sun Microsystems Java Runtime Environment (JRE). The Witness products, which utilize the Sun JRE, are noted later in this document.

To locate and download the versions of the Java Runtime Environment from Sun Microsystems, you can find these at the following web page (J2RE – 1.4 or JRE – 1.5):

Solution

wFO Suite 7.7.1.36969 (7.7 Sp1)

1) Upgrade the Server and Client computers to:

JRE 1.4.2_11 or later

2) Be sure you have followed the Microsoft guidelines for the OS and installed the Microsoft patch as noted at the top of this document. (Microsoft has provided patches on their website if the operating system is Microsoft Windows 2003 or XP; otherwise Microsoft notes the downloading, installation and use of the TZEdit.exe utility.)

3) The latest and the DST 2007 supported version of 7.7.1 is 7.7.1.36969. You can determine if you meet this requirement, when logged in, by looking at the right side of the login screen.

The two patches you need applied and in this order are:

a) WFO 7.7.1 Hot Fix 8.rar (7.7.1.36969)

b) WFO 7.7.1 Hot Fix 9.rar (7.7.1.36969)

Note: BOTH must be installed – Hot Fix 8 then Hot Fix 9.

Note: The base version for the DST 2007 system MUST be 7.7.1 (SP1)!

wFO Suite 7.6.3.36833 (7.6 Sp3):

1) Upgrade the Server and Client computers to:

JRE 1.4.2_11 or later

2) Be sure you have followed the Microsoft guidelines for the OS and installed the Microsoft patch as noted at the top of this document. (Microsoft has provided patches on their website if the operating system is Microsoft Windows 2003 or XP; otherwise Microsoft notes the downloading, installation and use of the TZEdit.exe utility.)

3) The latest and the DST 2007 supported version of 7.6.3 is 7.6.3.36833. You can determine if you meet this requirement, when logged in, by looking at the right side of the login screen.

The two patches you need applied and in this order are:

a) WFO 7.6.3 Hot Fix 2.rar (7.6.3.36833)

b) WFO 7.6.3 Hot Fix 3.rar (7.6.3.36833)

Note: BOTH must be installed – Hot Fix 2 then Hot Fix 3.

Witness Note: (Excerpted from - “Application Advisory Daylight Saving Time Changes – 2007, Date of update: 1st February 007”)

Following the upgrade we anticipate some problems in existing employees’ schedules since some of the objects like recurring events are dynamically calculated and changing them after the schedule has been generated might cause violation of some business rules.

Where schedules have already been created for the month where daylight time changes, these schedules will need to be deleted and recreated.

Note: The base version for the DST 2007 system MUST be 7.6.3 (SP3)!
