
System functionality
The Avaya IR system imitates and functions like a human operator or attendant during a telephone call. 
The Avaya IR system can do the following:
- Answer a call.
 - Greet the caller.
 - Answer questions posed by the caller.
 - Ask for, collect, and record information from the caller.
 - Speak a message to the caller. 
 - Transfer the call to a live operator, another automated operator, or voice mail.
 - Receive and send faxes.
 - End (terminate) a call.
 
The Avaya IR system itself is a computer with the ability to interact with telephone systems, and is composed of hardware and software.
