System communications software

The Avaya IR system uses Virtual Network Connectivity (VNC) software to administer remote servers, specifically the proxy servers for Proxy Text-to-Speech and Natural Language Speech Recognition.

Both the Sun Blade 150 platform and the Sun Fire 280R platform support Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). They also support other protocols that use the TCP/IP for Internet communications, including the following:

• Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP)
• Telnet
• File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

The Avaya IR system platforms also support Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and Voice over Internet Protocols (VoIP) including the following:

• H.323 - Multimedia H323 protocol to transport voice over packet switched networks
• G.711 - International standard voice encoding for telephone audio
• RTP - Real Time Transport protocol for the voice part of data in VoIP
