Channel mapping conventions
Channels on an H.323 trunk connection between a DEFINITY or MultiVantage switch and an Avaya IR system are mapped based on the following conventions:
- The switch provides three signaling groups for each trunk, and each group may contain up to 31 channels. On the Avaya IR system, H.323 trunk connections also may be configured with up to three signaling groups, with up to 31 channels in each group.
- Signaling groups specified for H.323 trunks in the Avaya IR system must match signaling groups specified on the switch side.
- You have a great deal of flexibility in configuring channels for H.323 trunks. Channels may be split among groups equally or unequally. You can assign just a few channels or the maximum 31 channels, and can use only one or two signaling groups.
- To ensure proper operations and synchronization with the switch, some rules apply:
- You should not assign more than 93 channels overall to a trunk, since the VoIP feature includes up to 93 VoIP RTUs.
- The switch has a limit of 31 channels per signaling group. So, if you want to assign more than 31 channels, you must use multiple groups.
