System Architecture

This section discusses the hardware and software components that make up the IA 770 INTUITY AUDIX Messaging Application. Topics include:

See IA 770 INTUITY AUDIX Architecture for an illustration of the hardware and software components that comprise the IA 770 INTUITY AUDIX system.

Communication Manager server Coresidency

The IA 770 INTUITY AUDIX Messaging Application runs on a Media Gateway controlled by a Communication Manager server.

Media Gateways

A media gateway is a rack-mountable IP telephony chassis that allows Voice over IP network processing and configuration of analog, IP, DCP, and T1/E1 telephony connections. It controls data processing through the IP Modules, and the media gateway processor, which controls the Ethernet ports, USB ports, telephony media modules, and some basic call processing functions.

You administer the media gateway resources by using either the Cajun command line interface or the media gateway command line interface. The Cajun and media gateway processors each have their own IP address for administration access.

The G450, G700, G600, G650, G350, and G250 Media Gateways are supported.

Communication Manager server

The Communication Manager server is an internal communication controller that is inserted into the media gateway. The S8400, S8300 and MultiVantage Express Communication Manager servers are supported.

The Communication Manager server comes loaded with the following resources:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Version 4 operating system
  • Web server software
  • TFTP server software
  • H.248 and H.323 protocol IP software
  • Avaya Communication Manager software, which serves as the primary voice/data communications application

When inserted into a media gateway, the Communication Manager server serves as a full-featured integrated data and phone communication system. The Communication Manager server has its own IP address for administration access.

Resources Shared by the INTUITY AUDIX System

The INTUITY AUDIX system uses many of the media gateway and Communication Manager server resources for call processing, data storage, and access and use of administrative tools. Specifically, the INTUITY AUDIX systems use the following resources:

    • The Communication Manager server hard drive for data storage and retrieval
    • The Communication Manager server TFTP server for:
      • License file downloads and updates
      • Backup and restore of data
      • Software updates and upgrades
    • The IP address of the Communication Manager server for remote administration access and TCP/IP networking functions such as Digital Networking and Message Manager.
    • The Communication Manager server license file for feature activation
    • The Communication Manager server General Alarm Manager for alarm display

As a result, the administrator administers some functions of the INTUITY AUDIX system by directly administering the Intuity AUDIX application, while the administrator administers other functions of the INTUITY AUDIX system by administering the Communication Manager server platform.

IA 770 INTUITY AUDIX Software

The INTUITY AUDIX system software is loaded directly onto the Communication Manager server hard drive. The software provides message recording, storage, and retrieval functions.

INTUITY AUDIX also provides the following features:

  • The subscriber telephone user interface (TUI) software
  • The AUDIX administration command line interface
  • INTUITY AUDIX Platform software, which enables the INTUITY AUDIX system to use lower level functions and includes the following capabilities:
    • Switch integration software
This software allows call control messages (timestamps, calling party information, called party information, and message waiting indicator control) to pass between the INTUITY AUDIX system and the Communication Manager server Communication Manager software.
    • Virtual port software
This software manages the voice message processing and emulates physical analog ports for sending and receiving voice messages.
    • Event and alarm logging software
This software logs alarms and sends them to the Communication Manager server Global Alarm Manager.
    • Disk space management
This software manages the portion of the Communication Manager server hard drive that is allocated to the INTUITY AUDIX system.
  • Digital networking
  • IA 770 INTUITY AUDIX Hardware

    H.323 protocol

IA 770 INTUITY AUDIX uses the H.323 protocol for all processes and communications.

    Disk Partitioning

The disk partitioning scheme has three partitions (two active and one duplicate).

The layout of active partitions used by the Communication Manager server products is defined as follows:

    • /msg/software: for Intuity software, database, and add-on applications. Symbolic links, references to mount points, and so on are modified as needed to preserve the existing directory structure. The size of this partition is at least as large as the sum of the replaced three partitions on the latest Communication Manager server product.
    • /msg/media1: for the message bodies. The size of this partition is at least as large as the existing partition on the latest Communication Manager server product.

    Note:
This assumes the partition size is already adjusted to account for the move from the denser CELP voice encoding to the G711 voice encoding.

    Media Modules

Media modules are boards with specialized functions that can be plugged into the media gateway as needed.

Other modules currently available with the Communication Manager server can be installed to handle INTUITY AUDIX call traffic, but none of these is specifically required for INTUITY AUDIX:

    • MM710 T1/E1 media module
    • MM712 DCP media module
    • MM716 analog media module
    • MM717 DCP media module
    • MM760 Voice over IP media module

    Ports

Communication Manager servers have a serial port. This serial port can be used for a direct connection to a laptop or PC. The port is called Services on the S8300 Server and Service on the S8400 Server.

For the AUDIX Data Acquisition Package (ADAP) to work with the INTUITY AUDIX system, one USB port must have an external Hayes-compatible modem attached.

    Terminals

You can administer the system through the use of a SSH session and one of the following terminal emulations:

    • Avaya 386
    • Avaya 4410 (for PROCOMM PLUS 4410 or Terranova emulation)
    • Avaya 513 (for Terranova emulation)
    • Avaya 715
    • Avaya 4425
    • vt100

    IA 770 INTUITY AUDIX Capacities

The INTUITY AUDIX system supports call traffic that is generated by a maximum of 300 local and 60,000 to 70,000 remote messaging subscribers. It supports up to 8 voice channels and up to 8 networking channels.

The system supports approximately 100 hours of message storage for all users, collectively. The system supports up to 100 INTUITY Message Manager clients with a maximum of 32 simultaneous sessions. Text-to-speech sessions are limited to four.
