Adding application nodes to a caller application

An application node is a menu item within a caller application. Application nodes are accessed when the caller presses an associated key. For example, “For Sales, press [1]”, where the call is routed to the sales department when the caller presses [1].

An application node must have an associated action. For example, it can be used to transfer the caller, disconnect the caller or route the caller to another application node.

A caller application may have thousands of application nodes. However it is recommended that you limit a caller application to three or four menu levels for reasons of usability.

To add an application node

  1. In the console tree, do one of the following:
    • Click on the caller application to which you want to add an application node.
    • If you are adding a submenu to an existing application node, click on the application node.
  2. From the Action menu, select New and Application node, or click on the New button .
  3. The Add Node dialog box is displayed.

  4. Complete the following fields:
    • Name.  Enter a node name.
    • Action type.  Select the action type. You can choose from:
    •      — Menu (default)

           — Transfer

           — Goto

           — Conditional goto

           — Send message

           — Termination

    • Key press.  Displays the access key that will be used by callers to activate the action described in this application node. You can change this key if required.
    • Note: You can change the access key at any time. For more information see Changing the access key assigned to an application node
    • Description.  Enter a short description of the menu (optional).
  5. Click OK.
  6. A new application node appears under the selected caller application or application node.

    If you have assigned a menu action to the application node but have not assigned any child application nodes to the menu, the application node icon appears as a warning . This indicates that the caller application is incomplete.

    If you have assigned an invalid action to the application node, the application node icon indicates that the action is invalid . You cannot save a caller application that contains invalid application nodes.

  7. Repeat Step 2 through Step 4 to add more application nodes to the caller application.
