Creating live sessions

You create a live session when you want to view events as they are fed to the operation history database. While viewing events in a live session, you can pause the live event feed.

To create a live session

  1. Start Operation History Viewer.
  2. From the File menu on the Viewer window, choose New, or click the New button on the toolbar.
  3. The Session Properties dialog box is displayed.

  4. In the Session Name field, enter the name of the session, if required.
  5. In the Message Application Server field, enter or select the messaging application server (MAS) for which you want to display events. If you want to display events for all the MASs in the voice mail domain, select All Servers.
  6. Select Live Mode.
  7. Under Select Types, select the event severity type or types to display. You must select at least one of Error, Warning or Information.
  8. Under Selection Activities, select the event criteria to display. To quickly select all activities, select All Activities.
  9. If you select All Activities, any mailbox or port number values you enter are ignored.

You can further restrict the display of mailbox and port activity events by entering a range of mailbox or port numbers in the Value field, using a comma separator. No negative numbers or spaces are allowed in a range. The first number in a range must be less than the last number in a range, for example, port numbers, 1-8,16-24.

  10. Click OK.
Note: To avoid slowing down the tracing server, Operation History Viewer displays the most recent events only. Older events can be viewed in an historical session.

If you want to change the number of events displayed in a live session, please contact your Avaya support representative.

Scrolling events in a live session

If you do not pause a live feed view when scrolling events in a live session, the viewer moves to the end of the event list each time a new event comes in.

Important!   You must pause a live view before exporting events. For information on exporting events, see Exporting operation history events.

To scroll events in a live session

  1. From the File menu, choose Pause, or click the Pause/Resume button on the toolbar.
  2. Scroll through the events you want to view.
  3. When you have finished scrolling, choose Resume from the File menu, or click the Pause/Resume button on the toolbar.
  4. Live event feed is resumed without any loss of events generated during scrolling.

    Notes:
    • You can pause a live view for a maximum of 200 seconds. If this time is exceeded, you must restart the live view session.
    • When you select New, Open, Save, Save As, Session Properties, and Event Properties, the application automatically pauses the event feed. Once the action is complete, event feed is resumed without any loss of events generated during the action.
