Configuring the audio encoding format

Modular Messaging Software supports Global Systems for Mobile Communications (GSM) 6.10 and G.7.11 audio encoding formats. This format determines the way in which audio is recorded on every MAS in the voice mail domain. In turn, this determines the format of voice messages sent using the telephone user interface and desktop clients. The client applications configure themselves to use the selected audio encoding format.

To configure the audio encoding format

  1. Stop operation of the MAS. You are advised to do this during system scheduled down time of the voice mail domain. To stop operation of the MAS:
    1. Start Services from the Control Panel.
    2. Double-click the Monitor.msc icon on your desktop. Alternatively, click the Start button on your desktop and select Programs > Administrative Tools > Services.
    3. From the list in the Services dialog box, select MMS Message Application Server, and click the Stop button.
    4. Click Yes to confirm you want to stop operation of the MAS. After a short time, the MAS service stops.
  2. In the Voice Mail Configuration window, choose the voice mail domain.
  3. Choose Audio Encoding.
  4. The Audio Encoding property page is displayed.

  5. Under Default Audio Encoding Format, select the audio encoding format you require. You can choose one of the following:
    • Microsoft GSM 6.10 (the default)
    • G.711 mu-law
    • G.711 A-law
  6. Under Voice Mail Text Body, edit the text that is to be added to all voice messages sent to recipients who have not installed Modular Messaging Software. This text should explain what they must do in order to listen to their message.
  7. Restart the MAS:
    1. Double-click the Monitor.msc icon on your desktop. Alternatively, click the Start button on your desktop and select Programs > Administrative Tools > Services.
    2. From the list in the Services dialog box, select MMS Message Application Server, and click the Start button.
