System component replacement

The field-replaceable units for the S3400 system vary depending on the model as follows:

• Message Storage Server configuration (standard or high-availability)
• Messaging Application Server

Message Storage Server (MSS) configurations

The Message Storage Server (MSS) is offered in two configurations: standard (MSS-S) and high-availability (MSS-H). A slightly different set of components can be replaced on either model.

For either model, the following components can be replaced on site:

• Circuit cards:
  • Network interface card (NIC)
  • Remote maintenance board (RMB)
  • MSS-H only: SCSI RAID controller board
  • Video card
• Internal cables including:
  • Disk drive cables
  • Other internal cables including fan power, LED panel, RMB reset cable, and (on MSS-H only) the SCSI cable group
• DVD-RAM drive
• Fans
• Memory module

If any other internal components fail, such as the motherboard or the SCSI drive backplane, then the entire machine must be replaced. See Machine replacement for this procedure.

MSS-S additional replaceable units

The following additional components can be replaced on site:

• IDE RAID drives
• Standard power supply

MSS-H additional replaceable units

The following additional components can be replaced on site:

• SCSI RAID controller card (see Replacing circuit cards)
• SCSI RAID drives
• SCSI fan tray
• Redundant power supply

Messaging Application Server (MAS)

You can have several Messaging Application Servers (MAS) in an S3400 system. For this type of unit, the following components can be replaced on site:

• CD drive
• Circuit cards:
  • Network interface card (NIC)
  • Video card
  • Port cards including:
    • Digital Set Emulation (DSE) switch integration card
    • Analog port board (4- and 12-port versions)
    • T1 or E1 cards for QSIG switch integration
• Internal cables including:
  • Disk drive cables
  • Other internal cables including fan power and the front LED panel
• Fans
• IDE disk drive
• Memory module
• Standard power supply

If any other internal components fail, such as the motherboard, then the entire machine must be replaced. See Machine replacement for this procedure.
