EFC and Application Traffic Reports

Any CNA system with endpoint flow collection capability can be configured to produce the full range of application traffic reports. This functionality can be based on either NetFlow or SPAN/Monitor data sources.

The scope and significance of the reports is necessarily tied to the comprehensiveness of the observed traffic/traffic flow data. CNA can report on the total of all traffic that the EFC module sees. Thus, the significance of the new application traffic reporting is directly related to the scope and comprehensiveness of the traffic that is presented to the EFC module.

For an effective EFC/dynamic measurement functionality, a minimal requirement is to enable the EFC module to build a representative “TopN” table of targets. Note that entirely successful measurement, performance optimization, and load optimization deployments are possible without presenting the complete set of production traffic to the EFC module. ANS5 does not change this aspect of functionality - existing deployments will continue to function as before. However, to take advantage of this new reporting capability, some sites may need to re-evaluate, and make changes to their EFC integration details. More details surrounding these issues are presented below.
