If your agent-based measurement system (hive) contains more than one CNA server, the Chatter modules can assume the responsibilities of any other Chatter module if it were to fail.
The hive continues to function when CNA failures or network problems occur. The remaining Chatter modules continue to run the tests administered (within system capacity, and using all agents that are still accessible). The test injection rate is scaled down proportionally to the number of Chatter modules lost from the hive. The ability of the system to continue running the tests that you set up before the failure is limited by the resources available on the remaining Chatter modules.
If network connectivity is reestablished, or the CNA server problem resolved, the lost Chatter modules automatically rejoin the hive.
When Chatter modules are lost from a hive, certain administrative user commands are not available (for example, rekeying the security keys, adding new agents, and so forth.). This restriction is to prevent potential problems when the lost Chatter modules rejoin the hive.
CNA agent information is shared among all Chatter modules in the hive, so every Chatter module knows about all CNA agents in the system and therefore can use any agent in the system to perform tests.
NOTE: If you replace a CNA server with another CNA server, hive membership is not transferred to the new server when you load the configuration from the backup configuration. To assign the new CNA server to a hive, you must execute the chatter join-hive command. This command assigns the server to the appropriate hive. For more information on this procedure, see Assigning Chatter modules to a hive.
