Assigning Chatter modules to a hive

To assign a CNA server’s Chatter module to a hive:

  1. Access Privileged command mode on the CNA server that you want to add to the hive. To access this mode, enter the following command: enable.
  2. Enter the following command:

chatter join-hive ip-address <ip> master-key <key>

where

<ip> is the IP address of a remote Chatter module that is currently participating in the hive.

<key> is the master key of the hive. For information on how to obtain the master key of a hive, see Viewing the master key for a hive.

NOTE: You cannot add a Chatter module when one of the existing Chatter modules is unreachable or unresponsive, or when another Chatter module is still being added to or removed from the hive.

  1. About an hour after adding a Chatter module to the hive, once the system has stabilized, access privileged command mode, and enter the following command:

chatter assign

This command clears and recalculates the associations of cells and edges to Chatter modules.

NOTE: If this command changes the association of a cell or edge from one Chatter module to another, previously trended data for the cell or edge is lost. New data for the cell or edge is maintained by the Chatter module that the cell or edge is now associated with.

For more information on these commands, see chatter join-hive and chatter assign in the CNA Command Reference Guide.
