Use CNA’s agent-based measurement to monitor and test network performance between CNA test agents. Test agents are embedded in Avaya Media and Security Gateways, IP Phones, switches from Extreme Networks, and in CNA servers. You can also install small, stand-alone devices, called CNA Agent Devices, in your network to serve as CNA test agents. For more information on CNA agents, see About CNA agents.
The CNA server’s Chatter software module schedules tests between test agents, collects, and analyzes, and reports the results, and dynamically generates a map of the network topology. The map shows discovered nodes and links that are used by test packets. For more information on Chatter modules, see About Chatter modules.
The CNA servers and CNA agents in your network make up an agent-based measurement network, called a hive. You can organize CNA agents into a hierarchy of zones (and sub-zones) to control the distribution of tests and analysis of the results. You can arrange the hierarchy of zones to help track long-distance link performance, or functionally to track communications between regions or departments, or both. Tests are performed between every pair of zones, and between every pair of sub-zones within a zone.
For more information on hives and zones, see Hives and Zones.
Alarm notifications can be sent to e-mail addresses, system logs, or SNMP traps for external alarm monitoring systems. For information on alarm notifications, see Agent-based measurement alarms.
