About alarm templates

An alarm template specifies the following parameters and actions for all links and all zones assigned to it:

• Alarm notification destinations:
• Up to four SNMP trap locations for communication with external alarm monitoring systems.
• Up to four e-mail addresses for communication with specific personnel.
• Up to four Syslog servers for communication with systems that require this protocol.

• Alarm parameters:
• Thresholds for absolute alarms. You can configure a threshold for each test variable in each test (RTP, Ping, TCP, and Traceroute). See Defining test thresholds.
• Enable or disable absolute alarms for each test or individual test variables. See Disabling absolute alarms for a test type.
• Enable or disable relative alarms for each test or individual test variables. Disabling relative alarms for a test type.

NOTE: Alarm parameters are specified separately for each test variable.

A single alarm template can have any number of links and any number of zones assigned to it. When an alarm condition occurs on any zone or link that is assigned the template, a notification is sent to all alarm destinations that are defined for the template.
