Application models

Application models make it possible for you to fine-tune a decision policy according to the particular applications on your network. CNA provides six preconfigured application models, but you can easily modify them to suit your needs. CNA uses the application model that you select to assess the relative impact of different types of network impairment (latency, loss, and jitter) and act on it in a manner consistent with real-world applications.

The preconfigured application models are:

• enterprise - optimizes time-critical TCP transactions on your network, such as transactional web
• multimedia - optimizes real-time applications on your network; example: video conferences
• streaming - optimizes streaming applications on your network; example: video streaming
• voice - optimizes voice over IP traffic on your network
• web - optimizes web transactions on your network
• other - can be used to vary the optimization parameters for non-web applications on your network when you are using only TCP for your measurements

For example, if you have a set of subnets that you want to optimize for video conferences, you can associate these subnets with the multimedia application model. This model considers factors that influence multimedia applications (for example, delay, jitter, loss)
