Chapter 2: WAN Cost and Load Optimization

Overview

The CNA system can optimize your network traffic in either of two fundamental ways:

Performance-based decisions are based on network quantities such as round-trip time, jitter, and loss--the round-trip time of a TCP handshake or ICMP echo request/reply--between end users and your network server through each of your service providers. By constantly analyzing and comparing the performance characteristics of the traffic that flows through each provider, the device can determine when it is advisable to divert outbound traffic being sent to a given prefix from one service provider to another. See Chapter 3: Adaptive Path Control.
