When SNMP polling is enabled, the link-monitor process periodically polls the SNMP agents on your edge routers for usage data (inbound, outbound traffic rates) through each of your service providers.
The status information is used by the decision-making process on the engine module to determine link outages or BGP problems.
The link usage data is used by the reporting module to generate estimated billing statements and usage trend graphs, and by the engine module to optimize traffic through your links in the most cost-effective manner.
All of these functions are user configurable.
