Configuring Load Optimization

To configure the engine module to apply load optimization, use the following load-specific commands:

load evaluation-interval

load min-required-samples

load optimization

load threshold-table

polling usage unknown-threshold

Enter the load optimization command to enable or disable the load optimization process.

Load-optimization parameters are set with these commands:

Default values will be used for any parameters that are not explicitly set.

If the router’s SNMP agent returns unknown for link usage a user-specified number of consecutive times, the load is moved away from that link. The number of failures allowed is set by the polling usage unknown-threshold command, in the link configuration block.

In addition to these load-optimization-specific commands, the winner-set-width command takes two arguments which are used to determine which links are considered in the set of potential winners--the candidates for route assertion. See the section Route Assertion in Chapter 3: Adaptive Path Control for a description of the winner set.

The first argument entered with this command is used to determine membership in the basic winner set.

The second argument, which should be larger than the first, determines membership in an expanded winner set in the event that the initial winner set has been emptied by the load optimization process before a winner can be determined.

Setting the second (extended) winner set value to its maximum size guarantees that the decision will always be made according to load and will never fall back to performance criteria.

Setting the two values equal to each other guarantees that the decision will be made on performance criteria, and not load.
