Size of Set and Probability of Route Assertions

A smaller winner-set width value will increase the likelihood that the CNA system will move traffic from one link to another by asserting new routes.

The larger the size of the width value, the more likely the current performance link will be included in the winner set. Since the CNA system will not move traffic off a link that is in the winner set, a larger width value means fewer route assertions.

If you shrink the size of the set by making the width value smaller, you will increase the probability that the current performance link will fall out of the winner set when other links outperform it.

The default value of the winner-set width is based on expectations of performance in a live working environment, with the CNA system responding to real traffic conditions. In a controlled environment, such as a lab, this value may be too high, resulting in too few route assertions. You may want to decrease this value to five during testing periods.

When you introduce the CNA system into a production environment, you may want to return the winner-set-width values to their defaults (at least initially), or you may find the device asserting routes too frequently.
