The CNA system provides you with several ways to monitor the performance of your service provider links, as well as the performance of the CNA system itself. Among the methods for monitoring activity are:
Show commands are implemented in the CLI that is part of the CNA system. The commands can be executed on the command line, with output directed to a monitor or a file URL, or they can be executed from the CNA system’s web interface with output viewed in your browser.
Trends require the optional Analysis and Reporting (RPT) module and can only be generated from the web interface.
Reports, which are also generated by the RPT module, can be viewed in either the web interface or from the CLI. They are also referred to as “snapshot reports” because they represent a snapshot in time of what your CNA system sees or is doing on your network. Snapshot reports can also be exported from the CNA system to a remote location.
Most show command output provides a window into the live database at the time the command is executed. Data for snapshot reports is derived from snapshot copies of the live database made at user-defined intervals.
Trend reports are based on data obtained from one of the following:
Within the web browser, trend or snapshot reports can be viewed directly or they can be e-mailed, either manually from the web UI or automatically (see the email command). Messages will be sent in HTML format. For those reports that display charts, graphic images will be embedded in the e-mail. E-mail clients that support HTML will display the graphics in the message body. Others should show the graphics as attached Portable Network Graphics files, with the extension .png.
