Administering the 715 BCT Remote Terminal


 

Note: Before you add the remote terminal to the Avaya Intuity system, you must administer the terminal options on the remote terminal itself. See Intuity Messaging Solutions Getting Connected, 585-313-703, for more information on adding a 715 remote terminal.

Windowing on the 715 BCT Terminal

If you are using the 715 BCT terminal, you should be aware of its windowing capabilities. You can use the 715 BCT terminal to log in to both the switch and the Avaya Intuity system to perform administration tasks and easily toggle back and forth between the two sessions. To control the windowing functions, use the function keys F1, F2, F3, and F8 as described in the following table.

Administering the 715 BCT Terminal Options

To administer the 715 BCT terminal options:

  1. Turn the terminal on.
  2. Press CONTROL + F1 on the 715 BCT keyboard.
  3. The remote terminal displays the 715 BCT Terminal Set-Up Options menu.

  4. Select:
  5. User Preferences

  6. Press ENTER.
  7. Set the following user-preference options for the remote terminal:

  9. Highlight an option by using the UP ARROW key and the DOWN ARROW key.
  10. Press ENTER.
  11. Press F1.
  12. Select:

  14. Press ENTER.
  15. Set the following communications options for the remote terminal Port 1:

    Note: The Emulation and the Terminal ID must have matching settings.

    Use the UP ARROW key and the DOWN ARROW key to highlight the option.

  25. Press ENTER.
  26. Press F1.
  27. Press F5.
  28. The system displays the word done on the lower right corner of the screen.

  29. Press F1 to exit.
Administering the 715 BCT Terminal on the Intuity System

You may install a remote terminal directly to a serial port as long as the distance between them is less than 50 feet (15 meters). If the distance is greater than 50 feet (15 meters), you must use a modem that connects the remote terminal to the Avaya Intuity system through the switch.

To administer the 715 BCT terminal:

  1. Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
  2. UNIX Management
    Modem/Terminal Administration
    Install Modem/Terminal Software

    The system displays the Install Modem/Terminal Screen.

  3. Enter terminal in the Device: field.
  4. Enter the number of the serial port in the Serial Port Number: field.
  5. Enter 9600 in the Speed: field.
  6. Press F3 (Save).
  7. The system displays the Install Modem/Terminal Software Window.

  8. Press F6 (Cancel) twice.
  9. Select:
  10. Display Serial Port Status

    The system displays the Display Serial Port Status Window.

  11. Verify that the device has been assigned to the correct serial port.
     

    Note: To remove a device from a serial port, see Removing a Modem or Terminal Device.

  12. Continue with Administering and Testing the Printer.

Administering and Testing the Printer

If your system has a printer, you must perform the following procedures:

Connecting the Printer

Connect a printer to your display terminal using the appropriate parallel or serial port for your printer. If you have a 610, 4410, or 5410 terminal, the printer speed must match the terminal speed.

The Avaya Intuity system is compatible with these printers:

Administering the Printer

To administer a printer:

  1. Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
  2. UNIX Management
    Printer Administration

    The system displays the Printer Administration Menu with the selection Install Okidata 320 Printer Software highlighted.

  3. Press ENTER.
  4. The system displays the following message:

    The Printer has been successfully added.

    Press <Enter> to continue.

  5. Press ENTER.
  6. Press F5 (Cancel) until you reach the Avaya Intuity Main Menu.
  7. Continue with Testing the Printer.
Testing the Printer

To test a printer:

  1. Verify that there is paper in the printer.
  2. Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
  3. Customer/Services Administration
    Log Administration
    Alarm Log

    The system displays the Alarm Log Display Selection Window.

  4. Press F3 (Save).
  5. The system displays the Alarm Log Window.

  6. Press F8 (Change Keys).
  7. The system displays the alternate set of function keys.

  8. Press F6 (Print).
  9. Verify that the printer has printed a copy of the alarm information as displayed in the window.
  10. Press F8 (Change Keys).
  11. The system displays the alternate set of function keys.

  12. Press F6 (Cancel) until you reach the Avaya Intuity Main Menu.

Removing a Modem or Terminal Device


 

Note: This procedure is required before you can change the serial port assignment for any peripheral device.

To reassign a modem or terminal to another serial port on the system or to remove a device that will no longer be used on the system:

  1. Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
  2. UNIX Management
    Modem/Terminal Administration
    Remove Modem/Terminal Software

    The system displays the Remove Modem/Terminal Window.

  3. Enter the device name of the modem or terminal in the Name: field.
  4. Press F3 (Save).
  5. Press F6 (Cancel) until you reach the Avaya Intuity Main Menu.
  6. Continue with Administering and Testing AMIS Analog Networking or reconfigure the device for the correct serial port. To reconfigure the device, see Administering the 715 BCT Terminal on the Intuity System.
