SWIN Diagnostics

Viewing the Status of the Switch Link

At this time, switch integration diagnostic utilities are available only for Avaya data communications interface unit (DCIU) integrations. Therefore, the procedures in the section only apply to those customers with DCIU integrations.

To view the status of the switch link:

  1. Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
  2. Customer/Services Administration
    Diagnostics
    Switch Interface Diagnostics

The system displays the Diagnose Switch Link Window.

Performing DCIU Circuit Card Diagnostics

The DCIU circuit card is equipped with diagnostic utilities that test circuit card functionality. If the system detects a switch link problem, it starts this diagnostic automatically.

This diagnostic command also resets and initializes the DCIU circuit card and its associated software (DCIU software). Occasionally, the DCIU link "hangs." Resetting the switch integration hardware and software often corrects the problem with a minimal interruption in service.

Note: Diagnosing the switch integration card disables all lines associated with the switch link, including all Intuity AUDIX Voice Messaging lines. Subscribers calling AUDIX will hear a fast busy signal. Callers sent to AUDIX coverage will hear ringing with no answer.

To diagnose or reset the DCIU circuit card:

  1. Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
  2. Customer/Services Administration
    Diagnostics
    Switch Interface Diagnostics

The system displays the Diagnose Switch Link Window.

  3. Press F8 (Chg-Keys).
  4. Press F4 (Diagnose).
  5. The system displays the Test Type Menu.

  6. Select:
  7. board

The diagnostic test takes about one minute. During the tests, the word working appears in the upper right corner of the screen.

  8. If the diagnosis of the DCIU circuit card is successful, the system displays the following series of messages.
  9. CARD DIAGNOSTIC

    In progress...

    EiconCard EC C20, Diagnostic: Passed

    -------------------------

    DIAGNOSTIC SUMMARY:

    Card #1: Success.

    -------------------------

  10. If the diagnostics fail, replace the DCIU circuit card.

Performing Digital Station Interface Circuit Card Diagnostics

To diagnose a digital station interface circuit card:

  1. Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
  2. Switch Interface Administration
    Call Data Interface Administration
    Switch Link Administration
    VB-PC Interface
    Link Status

The system displays the Link Status Window.

Busying Out a Switch Integration Link

It may be necessary to busy-out the switch link in order to troubleshoot or replace the switch card or its cables.

Note: Busying out the switch link disables all the lines associated with the switch link, including all Intuity AUDIX Voice Messaging lines. Subscribers calling AUDIX will hear a fast busy signal. Callers sent to AUDIX coverage will hear ring/no answer.

Any time you busy out the switch from the Avaya Intuity system, you must also busy out the switch link. This prevents the switch from generating alarms.

To busy-out the switch link:

  1. Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
  2. Customer/Services Administration
    Diagnostics
    Switch Interface Diagnostics

The system displays the Diagnose Switch Link Window.

  3. Press F8 (Chg-Keys).
  4. Press F2 (Busyout).
  5. The system displays the Confirm Window.

  6. Press y
  7. The system displays a Busyout Command Output Window.

Releasing a Switch Integration Link

Releasing the switch link puts the link back in service so that it can accept and process data.

To release the switch link:

  1. Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
  2. Customer/Services Administration
    Diagnostics
    Switch Interface Diagnostics

The system displays the Diagnose Switch Link Window.
