Fax is an optional feature.
About the Fax feature
With the Fax feature, you can send and receive faxes. IRAPI commands are used to control the process. Fax is not supported over a VoIP connection.
NMS NaturalFax is a C function library component of Natural Access that provides fax functionality. NaturalFax supports the following features:
- Enhanced Group 3 fax features, including the following:
- 1D, 2D and MMR encoding
- Error Correction Mode (ECM)
- Low, high, and superhigh resolutions
- Standard page width formats (A3, A4, and B4)
- The T.37 format; specified as 1D encoding, low resolution, and A4 page width.
- The ability to convert documents into different fax formats online or offline.
- Text-to fax on the fly is a capability provided as part of NMS NaturalFax that converts text (ASCII) files into fax (TIFF) files. This is typically used to generate cover sheets.
Software requirements
The Fax feature requires the following software:
- Next Generation FAX package (AVfax). For more information, see NG FAX package.
- Fax Actions package (AVnmsfax). For more information, see Fax Actions package.
Setup considerations
The environment variables NFXTEXTFONT and NFXHEADERFONT must be defined to run this utility.
Using this feature
The following are restrictions on the use of NMS NaturalFax:
- The document queue only supports TIFF-F or TIFF-S format file; it does not support text files or a text buffer.
- Conversion from an ASCII text file to a TIFF file is done on the host process.
- The file in the document queue must not exist on reception.
- There is no detailed information for transmission status, such as bytes sent or received.
