ASG security feature

Type of feature

Access Security Gateway (ASG) is a base feature.

About the ASG security feature

The ASG feature provides a means of assuring that only authorized persons have access to the system.

ASG uses an authentication protocol to confirm the validity of users and reduces the opportunity for unauthorized access. Successful authentication is accomplished when ASG-enabled devices communicate with compatible keys. The authentication transaction consists of a challenge (essentially a random number), which is followed by the receipt of a response entered by the user. At the core of this scheme is a secret key, which is information possessed by the system and an authorized user. Interception of the challenge or the response will not compromise the security of the system, as the relevance of the authentication token used to perform the challenge and response is limited to the current challenge and response exchange.

Software requirements

The ASG feature is installed as part of the IR Base System package (AVir). For more information, see Interactive Response Base System package.

Using this feature

Administer this feature using Web Administration (ASG Security Administration > ASG Security Login Administration) or the asg_adm command.
