Installing Oracle locally on the system
To install a local Oracle database, follow the Oracle software documentation, along with the following additional guidelines:
- Create a directory on the Avaya IR for the Oracle software files. The directory must be named /export/oracle.
- Check the available file space, as specified in the Oracle software documentation. Oracle may require 200 MB of available file space for the Oracle executable files and more file space for the database.
- Install the Oracle software files in the /export/oracle directory.
- During the installation process, do not start the Oracle Apache Web Server. The Oracle Apache Web Server is not required for using Oracle on Avaya IR.
Notes:
- When Oracle is installed locally on the Avaya IR, it may be configured to support UTF-8 data and double-byte databases. However, since Avaya IR does not support language-based Sun OS installations, for example Japanese, you will not be able to view double-byte data with the local Oracle database.
- As soon as Oracle is installed locally, adjust the storage space for backup. The ulimit size for the file option on the NFS mount directory where backup files are stored should be set to unlimited or large enough to accommodate the largest expected backup file (for the local Oracle database). If the NFS mount directory is not large enough to accommodate the backup file, the backup will fail.
- If the local Oracle database was not installed by Avaya, the customer should verify that Oracle environment variables have been set up as described in Setting up Oracle environment variables. If Oracle environment variables are not set up correctly, the backup process will fail.
