IR modes of operation

An IR system has 3 modes of operation:

• Normal mode
• Grace Mode
• Restricted Mode

The mode of operation of the IR system is independent of the licensing mechanism (Standard or Enterprise Wide Licensing) being used. The mode of operation of an IR system is decided by the value of the number of licenses acquired by the IR system and the number of licenses stored in the NVRam of the IR system.

The mode of operation of the IR system is decided on the following basis:

• If the number of licenses acquired from a single WebLM server (Primary or Secondary), or a group of WebLM servers (Primary or Secondary) is more than or equal to the NVRam license value, then IR system operates in the Normal mode. The NVRam is updated with the most recent value of licenses acquired.
• If the number of licenses acquired from a single WebLM server (Primary or Secondary), or a group of WebLM servers (Primary or Secondary) is lesser than the NVRam license value and the number of licenses configured under Web Administration for a particular feature, then IR system operates in the Grace mode. The NVRam is now dynamically updated with the most recent value of licenses acquired.
• If the period of operation of the Grace mode expires, the system operates in the Restricted mode. The Grace mode period of operation for an IR system is 30 days.

WARNING!: If you attempt to tamper with the licensing information of your IR system, then your IR system will go into the Restricted mode of operation.

At first startup, the NVRam license value of the IR system is zero. During first startup, the IR system contacts the WebLM servers for licenses required for individual licensed features. The first point of contact for licenses required by the IR system is the Primary WebLM server. The second point of contact for licenses required by the IR system is the Secondary WebLM server. The configuration of the Secondary WebLM server is optional. If no license files are installed on the Primary WebLM server or the Secondary WebLM server at first startup, then the sum of the total number of individual licenses acquired by the Primary and Secondary WebLM servers is zero. Since the NVRam value is also zero, the system operates in the Normal mode.

Note: The fuctionality of a system with no licenses acquired, operating in the Normal mode after first startup is severely limited. None of the licensed features (Digital and VoIP ports, ASR and TTS ports) of the IR system will be operational.

At each subsequent startup, the IR system contacts the Primary WebLM server and the Secondary WebLM server.

The total number of licenses acquired by the IR system is:

• The total number of individual licenses acquired from the Primary WebLM server, if only the Primary WebLM server is installed
• The sum of the total number of individual licenses acquired by the Primary and Secondary WebLM servers, if both the Primary and Secondary WebLM servers are installed.

Illustrated below are the various user case scenarios of number of licenses acquired at startup and the mode of operation of the IR system.
