The Solaris Installation Program

The Solaris installation program is divided into a series of short sections where you'll be prompted to provide information for the installation. At the end of each section, you'll be able to change the selections you've made before continuing.

About navigation...
- The mouse cannot be used
- If your keyboard does not have function keys, or they do not respond, press ESC; the legend at the bottom of the screen will change to show the ESC keys to use for navigation.

Press F2 to acknowledge the screen.

Identify This System

On the next screens, you must identify this system as networked or non-networked, and set the default time zone and date/time.

If this system is networked, the software will try to find the information it needs to identify your system; you will be prompted to supply any information it cannot find.

While restoring the system, do not modify the host name and IP address of the system. Keeping the host name and IP address of the system the same, prevents problems with restoring licenses.

The format is <backuphhost>:/<path>/<filename>.D<mmddyy>T<hhmmss>

Where:

backuphhost - the name or IP address of the system where backup is located.

path - the pathname to the directory on the backuphost where the backup file is located.

filename - the name of the backup. For a command line backup,this name is either the archive name given or the host name of the system. For a backup from Web administration, this is the name entered in the Backup File Title field.

There should be two files on the backuphost:

systemname.DmmddyyThhmmss.full and systemname.DmmddyyThhmmss.diskinfo.

Enter the NFS pathname to the backup image:

CAUTION:
You must use the IP address of the system where the backup is located (backuphostip). If you use a host name instead, the restore operation might fail, depending on your network configuration.

The system extracts the data from the backup file, installs the data, and then reboots. This process takes several minutes.

On this screen you can create a root password.

A root password can contain any number of characters, but only the first eight characters in the password are significant. (For example, if you create `a1b2c3d4e5f6' as your rootpassword, you can use `a1b2c3d4' to gain root access.)

You will be prompted to type the root password twice; for security, the password will not be displayed on the screen as you type it.
