Administrator interface

Administration of the Message Networking system is performed through the Web-based administration menu and pages or via Message Networking's LDAP interface.

The Message Networking system supports both local access and remote access for system administration:

  • Local access for administration is supported using the Message Networking system's dedicated monitor and keyboard, via the supplied Netscape browser.
  • Remote access for administration is supported through the system's modem or via the LAN via a supported browser. Configurations and remote access sequences vary widely, depending on the site. You might need to refer to the documentation for your terminal or terminal emulator to find the remote access procedure that applies to your particular situation.

Caution! The Message Networking system allows more than one person to perform the same function on the same screen, for example, adding a subscriber to the Message Networking system database. However, if two people happen to be editing the same subscriber's profile, only the changes made by the person who saves the screen last are written to the system database. The other person's changes are lost.

Tip: Depending on your terminal emulator, you might have trouble correctly viewing some of the Message Networking screens. Try making changes from the terminal emulator's Controls or Options menu. In particular, try turning word wrap or wraparound off.

The following options are available from most of the pages:

  • Return to Main button that links back to the main menu.
  • Back button that returns to the next higher level in the menu hierarchy.
  • Save, Submit, Add (or another action) buttons that execute a command or make a system change.
  • Help button that opens a separate browser window to display the applicable Help topic.
  • Field name links that open a separate browser window to display the applicable field description.
