Setting and resolving violation warnings

The Access Security Gateway (ASG) tracks the number of unsuccessful login attempts and the time between unsuccessful login attempts. If someone exceeds the allowed number of failed login attempts, a warning is added to the Alarm Log.

Use the tasks in this topic to set ASG alarm notification limits and to resolve existing ASG alarms.

Setting alarm notification limits

To set alarm notification limits for ASG:

  1. Start at the Messaging Administration main menu and select:
  2. Basic System Administration
          Access Security Gateway (ASG) Administration
ASG Login Security Violation Warning Administration

The system displays the Login Security Violation Warning Administration page.

  3. Type a new value in the Number of failed login attempts (1-99) field, if needed.

This specifies the number of times that a user can incorrectly type the login information before the system places an entry in the alarm log and disallows further login attempts. For more information, click the field names or Help on the web-based administration page.

  4. Type a new value in the Failed login measurement window (1-99) field, if needed.
  5. This indicates the maximum time, in minutes, that can elapse between failed login attempts and still have the attempt count as one in a series. For more information, click the field names or Help on the web-based administration page.

  6. Specify whether you want to resolve an active ASG warning alarm in the Resolve existing alarm? field. Select Yes to specify that you want to resolve an active ASG warning alarm. Select No to specify that you do not want to change the status of any active alarms.
  7. For more information, click the field names or Help on the web-based administration page.

  8. Click Save to accept the page settings.

    A confirmation page displays.

  9. Click Back in the web browser to return to the Login Security Violation Warning Administration page or, if you are finished administering ASG, click Return to Main.
