Creating a shadow mailbox

This topic provides information on creating the shadow mailbox. The shadow mailbox is a special mailbox that ELA uses to distribute messages. The use of a shadow mailbox prevents replies to ELA-delivered messages from being sent back to the entire enhanced list. The shadow mailbox must belong to a community that cannot receive messages.

You set up one shadow mailbox for the system. This shadow mailbox serves all enhanced lists.

To create the shadow mailbox:

  1. Start at the Messaging Administration main menu and select:

Global Administration
     Subscriber Management

The system displays the Managing Subscribers page.

  1. Click Manage beside the Local Subscribers list item.

The system displays the Manage Local Subscribers page.

  2. Click Add a New Subscriber.

The system displays the Add a New Subscriber page.

  1. For the Last Name field, enter a name that is useful to your subscribers, such as "Mailing List" or Enhanced-Lists Postmaster."
  2. For the Password field, enter any password. You cannot leave this field blank.
  3. For the Mailbox Number field, enter an unused mailbox number at which you want the shadow mailbox to be located. Make sure that this mailbox number is not administered as a station on the switch.
  4. For the Numeric Address field, enter 1, followed by the mailbox number or another address that will be unique within your messaging network. The number you enter here should also be a number that subscribers would never use to address messages.
  5. Leave the PBX Extension field blank. This causes a value to be automatically generated.
  6. For the Class of Service field, enter the ELA class-of-service number (the example uses 8).
  7. In the Community ID field, enter the number of the shadow mailbox community you created (the example uses 11).
  8. In the Email Handle field, enter the same number as you entered in step 6.
  9. Leave defaults in all other fields.
  10. Click Save to save this information to the system database.
  11. Click Return to Main to return to the Messaging Administration main menu.
